Classical music is nothing to cough at, it is often seen as a serious affair, with many dressing for the occasion. On Friday I went the Royal Festival Hall, London, to see Daniel Barenboim and the Berlin Staatskapelle. The performance of Beethoven’s First Piano Concerto was wonderfully sublime, whereas the critically successful performance of Schoenberg’s symphonic poem Pelleas und Melisande was not to my liking. But this post isn’t about reviewing the music, as I am no expert in this field and review by ‘professionals’ can be seen in related …

On Monday I saw múm at the Tabernacle and all I can say is their new album (which I’m yet to find the name of)… sounds totally awesome. It’s funny how music can completely change your mood, before walking into the concert, I was tried, stressed and slightly pissed off at the days events but I came out of this gig a new person, refreshed, happy and reinvigourated. So this is me publicly thanking múm and the half sister, who were supporting, for a wondrously enjoyable evening, may there be …

As much as I love music, I seldom has reason to write about it, unless of course it is a piece of music that rocks into my life for some reason and becomes an intrinsic part of a moment. Balmorhea and Peter Broderick each in their own right play such pieces of music, I just can’t stop listening to it’s supple calming tones.
This is a beautiful song by Balmorhea, I’ll doubt that you’ll be able to find as chilled classical music anywhere else.

This is a duet of Peter Broderick and …

What an awesome gig. Amiina was ‘headlining’ Music Through Unconventional Means, on the 15th May 2009. The Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre, is a wonderful venue, having seen Love with Arthur Lee there a few years back I was excited to go back. Now I remember why, the sound is fabulous, every tone pitch perfectly.
Shlomo as artist in residence and a supreme human beatboxers for me infused this night with a passion rarely seen and brought the whole concert up to the next level.
This was the first time I came …

for those that don’t know Apple’s AirPort Express is suppose to be a nifty bit of gear that allows you to sync iTunes to your stereo using the power of wifi, with little or no effort, that’s the theory anyway. For me things panned out a little different and after about 4 days of looking at this white plug with it’s annoying amber flashing light, which signaled failure with every blink, I was about done with the damn thing. Scouring the Internet proved a devastating experience, with most reviews and …

last Friday I was at the so called silent rave inside Liverpool Street Station, thanks to being dragged down there by so Pro @calvinrobinson. Must admit, found it enjoyable, perplexing and striking at the same time and realise the power of Facebook, or at least the power of the Internet.
Silent rave where I got to put my playlist on and rock out to some funky Berlin beats, of course this was only after we all gathered (I’d guess at least 1500 people) in the station and waited for the …

so it is that time again where people wheel out their music of the year, seems very bland to me. If you truly do love music then you are not a pure populist and if that is the case, why would you have music of the year. This year I have discovered music that warms my soul, but that others have long been listening to, does that mean it isn’t music of 2008? Hardly! some of it will define the year for me, or lead me to make new discoveries …

yeah it maybe hosted in russia and that might count against it’s legitimacy but in my experience Russians are smart. And when they build something, then it’s worth looking in to. This is most definitely something worth looking into. My experience has been short live to about 20 minutes, but damn it, if that is anything to go by, i might claim this as the best musical discovery since the Flaming Lips. http://tagoo.ru/en/
