Tomorrow marks a momentous day in the history of the internet, the likes of wikipedia, reddit and I’m sure countless other sites, along with uberBusy are set to blackout their websites in Protest of SOPA and PIPA – legislation that misguidedly and ambiguously aimed at protecting ‘corporate’ copyright holders but is more than likely going to destroy the web in its current form.
I know that not many of you will can’t be bothered to read a vast amount about this, so here is a video.
You can read way more about this from http://americancensorship.org/.
Sadly this isn’t just an American citizen’s problem, the legislation being debated here will have massive implications globally. Having seen German YouTube puts this kind of censorship into perspective and in my opinion doesn’t protect copyright, rather infuriates users. The entertainment industry need to look back at their business models and embrace consumers through the internet, instead of ripping at the very fabric which will raise it from the ashes.
