There are many dictionary definitions as to what a sport is, most conclude something similar to this passage:

An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment

Clearly, this is a good start but ever since the BBC has been replacing all of its lost sporting content to sky, we see the likes of Darts and Snooker labelled as sports. If you have half a mind you can clearly see that these are not sports but are simply games. If physical exertion emitted in Darts makes it a sport, then by definition standing at a bar putting a beer glass to your mouth should also count. What about the ‘skill’ element I here you ask, well perhaps at the same time you bolden yourself to play chess. Eureka, a new sport, beer drinking chess play! Exactly, I thought not!

After long debates and countless arguments the best definition for a sport would surely equates to:

An activity involving physical exertion and skill, where smoking during the activity would negatively impact or would inhibit the participants abilities and in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment

Or in other words, it is a game if smoking during the activity has no affect on the result.

Here are a few examples:

Sports vs. Games

Sports Games
Football Snooker
Swimming Darts
Basketball Fishing
Cycling Bowling
Formula 1 Golf

Enjoy chewing this over, I look forward for anyone to try and disprove this theory.
