Escaping Lyon, throttling the car as fast as it could carry us we soon arrived in the bends and turns of the hilly Ardèche. Never will driving be as much fun as it is here, tackling the endless bends and cranking through the gears is enough to warm any city drivers soul.

Later that day we arrived at our final destination. Through the country roads we drove to the house of remote surroundings. A most excellent friend and host offered his abode for us to enjoy what France is really about, good food, good wine and all housed in a warm country atmosphere. Pre dating Napoleon this home had charm character and most definitely gave me the holiday that I most needed.

A few chillaxing days quickly reminds you of what it is like to be human again. It is a pleasant gear change from the automatic repetition that employment gives you. No matter how challenging the job and how rewarding it can be, a holiday of this nature allows the solitude and reflection that brings perspective and clarity.
If you ever visit France, my advice, head to the hills and stay out of the city. Life is at its most wonderful for those that swap hustle and bustle for serenity and friends.
