Inspired and slightly scared by Wired’s “100 Things Your Kids May Never Know About“, I thought I would post at least a few things that I will sad to see disappear into the history books and what I’ll try and teach my kids, nieces and nephews about in the future.

1. Vinyl Records. Now I’m not like some, completely obsessed with these and actually I just bought my first Vinyl for 10 years or so last week. But I’m taking charge of my parents Vinyl and don’t mind admitting there is nothing better.

2. Blowing the dust out of a NES cartridge in the hopes that it’ll load this time. Yes, in the age of downloads, and CD’s even being phased the classic, blow and hope approach is going to die, along with some of the finest games ever made. I have all my previous consoles and I’m not afraid of hooking them all up again for gaming history 101.

3. Using a road atlas to get from A to B. OK, I know if you’re like me, you love google maps, you probably love it even more it’s on your eye phone. You even like the voice shouting orders at you while in the car, who isn’t a real person, holding on for dear life. That being said, learning how to read a road atlas, will make you better than the machines. So if they still update and print them, I’m going to always update every few years.

4. Doing bank business only when the bank is open. Must admit, I’m way behind the curve here, I hate my online bank interface. So much so I’m moving banks. But I do dread the day where I can check my accounts constantly and move money around like some market trader.
Shopping only during the day, Monday to Saturday. I’ll mi

5. Putting film in your camera and developing the film. Hard to believe how quickly technology has transformed a once very slow moving market. The art of photography is somewhat lost, and the instant gratification, doesn’t allow gratification on anticipation. Shame, but they call it progress. Feel that I’m missing out on this style of old school photography, the art of it. Hope to revisit it when I have time.

6. Privacy. Well this is a big one. Privacy is null and void in today’s society. I will write a post on this topic one day soon. I do however find it a shame, that CCTV is everywhere, Governments are collecting biometric data and all your internet profiles, tell the world a whole new story.

That’s my list at the moment. I’m sure the decline of paper books, is on its way, but I do hope not. A good book, some vinyl spinning and a glass of wine in the sun – relax!
