The days of Mad Men are long behind us. I came out of the heart of New York City’s Madison today after meeting countless of folks from big brand old school publishing houses, new media men and leading social media innovators.
I learnt 4 important things on this journey.
1. Traditional media is dead and if they can’t innovate fast enough, not even the bear basic will survive. The New York Times is fading fast, if they want to stick it in there, they have to play on their strong points.
2. Amplification of messaging through social media.
3. Be clever to survive but realize that market forces play a strong role in advertising. Economist can teach some interesting lessons on pricing models. Madison Avenue prices could be unstainable in the short term but if we in the industry can help innovate the CPMs could be maintained
4. Agencies need to snap awake now! And start getting creative again.
